Several weeks ago, on a Saturday, I was working on my Hewlett-Packard laptop. Suddenly, it “blacked out” and nothing appeared on my screen. I had purchased this HP laptop approximately 13 months ago from Best Buy. I thought it advisable to take my machine to them, and let their Geek Squad repair it. Much to my amazement, I was told that the machine had to be sent back to the factory, and that I could expect a turnaround time of three to four weeks. I was upset because I use that laptop for work. Furthermore, they told me that the cost could be as much as $700. I thought that was absurd, because I could have purchased a new laptop for approximately that same amount.

The following Monday, I contacted Larry Kahm of Heliotropic Systems, a company that I have had the pleasure of dealing with in the past. After telling Larry my tale of woe, he assured me that he would take care of everything. He suggested that I call the credit card company I used to pay for the laptop and find out if they offered any form of extended warranty. As it turns out, I had a full warranty for twelve months beyond the manufacturer’s warranty.

Larry then spoke with HP tech support, and arranged for the pick-up and return of the laptop. He even took it upon himself to back-up the entire hard drive to safeguard against the remote possibility that the HP tech support crew might replace the operating system.

I don't know how many computer consultants will tell you (or know) about all the options available to a customer. But this one took actions that were above and beyond the basics of computer repair. I am extremely pleased with the personal service and results provided by Larry Kahm of Heliotropic Systems, Inc.
